Daniel Iglesia : "whipmod.wav" (172KB)
Review: Iglesia's "Whipmod" piece is a bit of a whirligig to listen to. It measures under a second but it sounds much longer than a second. This bit's trickling mini-heli-blades whip around very mechanically and percussivey. It is hard not to get a corresponding visual or poetic image whirling around in the mind's eye. Perhaps the listener is under surveillence? As this whip-modified 'copter seems to hover over the listener and flick it's blades in a single elegant rotation, one cannot help but feeling like they are being watched. I should add that this is only a subjective impression. More objectively speaking, the drone throughout this piece sounds like it may have been sampled from an industrial source. Perhaps the drone component was sampled from a Power Plant or some kind of assembly line. (Jeremy)
